Chippa United coach Morgan Mammila slammed the referee for being biased towards Sekhukhune United in their 2-0 loss to the Limpopo side in the DStv Premiership match at the Peter Mokaba Stadium on Wednesday evening.
The visitors were able to keep their hosts at bay until Zuko Mdunyelwa was sent off after getting his second yellow card in the 49th minute, with Sekhukhune’s two goals coming after the send-off.
Chippa dropped to 13th place on the log with 15 points from 13 games. The coach took a swipe at referee Cedric Muvhali, who was suspended in October with assistant referee Patrick Jafta for poor officiating in the league game between Cape Town City and Polokwane City in September.
Mammila suggested that he didn’t expect any better from someone who just returned from suspension.
“The referee made it difficult for us today,” said Mammila after the game.
“He was not [on] our side. You can see he was wearing a Sekhukhune jersey. Not even fouls on my players, no one got yellow but every time our player touched them it’s a yellow.
“But it’s one of those things, you know I’m not surprised because he [Muvhali] just came back from suspension and he started with our game but that’s the nature of this game.”
Mammilla went on to say he is not making excuses, admitting that Babina Noko deserved the victory, while his side was a bit rusty from being inactive competitively in a long time.
“No excuse. I think Sekhukhune deserved to win after we were one man down and it was difficult to chase,” added Mammila.
“You could see they were using our left hand side which is their right hand side. They should have scored more goals on that side.
“Congratulations [to] them and congratulations to Chippa United for giving the effort. We’ll have to forget about this game as quick as possible, we’ve got an important game at home.
“They [Sekhukhune] were lucky they’ve been playing, they had some minutes. You could see their players they’ve got some minutes.
“Us I think it’s two to three weeks without touching a ball. You could see that we struggled a bit but we’ll bounce back. I think we’ll bounce back stronger.”
