Manqoba Responds To Social Media Criticism

Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Manqoba Mngqithi says he is not worried about the opinions of social media users and naysayers about his capabilities to lead the team.

Mngqithi’s charges were booted out of the two-legged MTN8 semifinals this past weekend after going down 2-0 on aggregate to Stellenbosch FC at Moses Mabhida Stadium.

Since taking over the reins at Chloorkop after the departure of Rhulani Mokwena in July, Mngqithi’s side has been unable to score in an official tie, with the MTN8 quarterfinal win over Polokwane City, coming courtesy of a Thabang Matuludi own goal.

Speaking to the media at the launch of the 2024/25 Betway Premiership campaign, the former Golden Arrows mentor said he is not even on social media to see what users are saying about him, while adding that it is strange that there are people who think he isn’t capable of coaching the Brazilians.

“I don’t even have social media, so I can’t answer on something that I don’t even see,” Mngqithi told reporters.

“For me, one thing I know is that when you are the leader of a pack, it’s always important to try to move your ears away from the crowd and focus on what you are doing because as it is, I don’t think there is any reason for anyone to believe that I cannot coach Sundowns.

“For me, I believe anyone who feels like maybe might be malicious, maybe might be having issues or maybe might be sent by others to say things that suit those particular individuals.

“But for someone to think I’m incapable of coaching Sundowns, it will be very strange for me,” Mngqithi added.

Sundowns now switch their attention to continental football where they will take on Eswatini side Mbabane Swallows in the CAF Champions League 2nd Preliminary round qualification.
