Masango – What Johnson Needs To Change To Get Best Out Of Shabalala

Mandla Masango believes that Kaizer Chiefs head coach Cavin Johnson can get the best out of midfielder Mdu Shabalala, if he plays him as a winger and not as a 10.

Shabalala is in his second season with the Chiefs’ first team having been promoted at the start of last season.

The 19-year-old has played nine league matches so far this season and he has just one assist and no goals.

The former Amakhosi winger believes the former South African U17 international is best suited as a winger as opposed to number 10, where there is a lot of pressure which he believes the youngster is not ready for yet.

“I think he should start as a winger,” Masango told iDiski Times.

“The reason why I’m saying that is so he can learn the tactics before because, in that number 10 position, there’s a lot of pressure. You need to give us this, you need to score goals.

“So on the side, like on the wing, he can be able to learn about the game, learn the tactics and the movements, and also he can have endurance.

“Then once he is fully developed, it will be easier for him to play that role as a number 10”
