Mamelodi Sundowns’ new signing Tashreeq Matthews has spoken about one of the key deciding factors in why he joined the DStv Premiership champions.
The 23-year-old Capetonian, who has spent the past five years in Europe, opted to leave Sirius in Sweden to return to South Africa after Sundowns made an offer during the January transfer window.
In an interview in the latest iDiski Times newspaper, Matthews told Rob Delport a key moment was when he spoke to Coach Rulani Mokwena a few days before the deal through.
“Yes, I spoke to him two or three days before joining and we had a very nice conversation, in terms of how I feel, and how he feels and I enjoyed it,” Matthews told iDiski Times.
“And I also got nice lessons from it. Of course, it’s a deciding factor and stuff like that.

“But for me, it’s also about will I fit in. So, as you said, I’ve watched a lot, and I even watched when I was in Cape Town [in December] when Sundowns played against Cape Town City.
“And I also have watched some games on my iPad or phone that Sundowns played and the football they played, I liked it! I enjoy watching them!”
