Kaizer Chiefs defender Aden McCarthy goes into the history books of the club after scoring against the same opponent his father Fabian McCarthy scored against in 2005.
Fabian McCarthy played for Chiefs between 2003 and 2008. The 48-year old retired defender made over 100 appearances for Amakhosi, won multiple domestic titles including a the Premier Soccer League.
Aden McCarthy who is the son of Fabian McCarthy scored his first senior goal at Chiefs in their 1-0 win over Lamontville Golden Arrows. The goal was a significant one as his father scored against the very same side in 2005 and the young McCarthy was only two-years old back then.
“It’s quite interesting. I was two years old when my dad scored against Arrows in 2005, and knowing that I emulated him makes it historic. I was not aware that he had done that and I was not expecting that I would do the same,” Aden McCarthy told the Chiefs media.
“It is amazing that my first goal happened against a team that my father also scored against, as it was my first goal for the Club and will be one for the history books, one to remember.
“It is also ironic that before the game, my dad sent a message and said I should get on the scoresheet.”
