Middendorp Reacts To Big Win In Relegation Race

After their 1-0 win over Richards Bay on Friday, Cape Town Spurs coach Ernst Middendorp said he will happily welcome a little bit of excitement into the dressing room mood.

Bottom-of-the-table Spurs are in a fight against relegation, and Friday’s win sees them now five points behind 15th-placed Richards Bay, with five games to go.

After a run of disappointing results, Middendorp said it will be good to have a positive vibe in the dressing room ahead of another crunch match, against Polokwane City on Tuesday.

“No, we definitely have enough space to get more excitement into this,” Middendorp responded after the game.

“Although if you lose or not winning four or five games in a row you’re very happy to have some excitement.

“No, I definitely will not push down the excitement. I think it’s very crucial and it’s definitely giving us in terms of the confidence level something.

“The mood will be good tomorrow, we’re looking forward to the game, watching it tomorrow evening, [Stellenbosch vs] Polokwane in front of the house and then let’s wait and see.

“We do our best, try to be well prepared, find the right decisions. There will be again some changes either through a certain injury level or through yellow card suspension, but let’s wait and see.”
