Mngqithi Aims For Top Eight After Cup Disappointment

Lamontville Golden Arrows’ head coach, Manqoba Mngqithi, has expressed his desire to secure a top eight finish in the league following the team’s exit from the Nedbank Cup.

Arrows have garnered significant attention from South African football enthusiasts this season due to their attractive style of play.

The team has participated in two domestic cups this season, namely the Carling Knockout Cup and the Nedbank Cup, exiting the former in the semi-finals to Marumo Gallants and the latter in the quarterfinals to Durban City, with the latter loss coming via a penalty shootout.

Currently positioned 12th on the table, just three points above the promotion playoffs spot, the team’s flair could be rendered meaningless if they find themselves battling relegation at the end of the season.

Abafana Bes’thende boasts the third-highest goal tally in the league with 24 goals, narrowly behind Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates.

However, Arrows’ primary concern has been their defensive vulnerability, having conceded as many goals as they have scored.

Following their Nedbank Cup quarterfinal exit, Mngqithi reiterated his ambition for a top eight finish, emphasizing that his team possesses the capability to achieve this objective.

“My wish is to finish inside the top eight, and I still believe, and it’s not a far-fetched wish,” Mngqithi told the media.

“I see my team having the capacity to do that.”
