Mngqithi Confirms Riva Blow

Mamelodi Sundowns coach Manqoba Mngqithi has confirmed an injury blow to versatile midfielder Rivaldo Coetzee.

Coetzee started the season on a high note, continuing where he left off from the previous season. The 28-year-old has had a difficult career where he has suffered injuries and stayed out for months.

Sundowns have a tight schedule like always, as they have to compete in the CAF Champions League, Carling Knockout Cup, Betway Premiership, and Nedbank Cup, but they have to continue their quest for silverware without Coetzee for the foreseeable future.

The former Cape Town Spurs midfielder played six minutes against Cape Town City where Sundowns won by 3-0 and Mngqithi confirmed he suffered an ACL injury which could keep him out of action for four weeks or more.

“Riva’s one is a serious injury probably four weeks out if not more, ACL,” he told journalists.

“He has to go for the operation I think this coming week but it’s a bad one. I hope he will come back when we need him the most in the later stages of the season.”

Masandawana will face Marumo Gallants in the Carling Knockout Cup semi-final this coming Sunday in Bloemfontein, 16 days later they will welcome DR Congo side Maniema Union in the CAF Champions League match day one of group stages.
