Mntambo’s Plea To Mbule

Sekhukhune United captain Linda Mntambo is hoping that his talented, but wayward ex-teammate Sipho Mbule can get his career back on track, describing him as ‘unbelievable’.

After being shipped out to Babina Noko on loan by Mamelodi Sundowns at the beginning of the 2024/25 campaign, he had a strong start racking up 17 appearances with two goals and three assists but soon fell out of favour due to alleged off-field issues.

Speaking to presenter Clauiee Grace Mpanza and regular guest Mahlatse Mphahlele on the Arena Sports Show, ‘Figo’ spoke highly of the talent Mbule possesses and urged him to give just one season’s focus on football which could earn him an overseas move.

“That broer [brother] knows ball. If there’s one person who knows ball it’s Sphola [Mbule],” he said.

“And I know people only see his glimpses of performances on matchday, but for us who train with Sphola, he’s just unbelievable.

“Sphola oozes confidence. He’s not short of it. He’s got confidence in abundance. If you need it [confidence], he can fill your cup a little bit with it. That’s how good that broer is.

“Sphola just comes to training and warns everyone when he comes in. I think if there’s a player that has to win Player of the Season back-to-back-to-back, it should be Sipho Mbule.

“I just hope he understands how good he is and that the years are passing by, so that he can play his best football so that he can give the country and everyone that roots for him what they deserve.

“I pray that Sphola gives the people just one good season and do all that’s right. He doesn’t need to put much effort but just to say, ‘this season I’m just giving it to football’. Nothing on the sides, just focus on football.

“Sphola’s gonna go overseas.”

Mbule, 27, is now a free agent after Sundowns opted not to exercise the option in his contract ahead of the 2025/26 season.
