Marumo Gallants head coach Phuti Mohafe has offered an apology on behalf of his team after suffering a 3-1 defeat to Stellenbosch FC.

Gallants suffered their first defeat of the season after a hat-trick from Quwan Plaatjies. Bahlabane Ba Ntwa conceded two goals in the first-half, things got worse when they conceded the second one in the second half. Hopes were alive when they made it 3-1.

There was nearly a nervy ending unfortunately Gallants missed a great opportunity in front of the six-yard box, which went wide. Stellies also had something descent in opportunities to put the game to bed but the 3-1 was enough.

Mohafe immediately apologised to the club for a poor first-half performance and mentioned that this wasn’t a good performance.

“First and foremost, I would like to say my apologies to Marumo Gallants, because of the heavy loss. The way we lost it, it wasn’t supposed to be, it is so uncalled for,” Mohafe told the media.

“Because we gave away two easy goals. And we gave away those goals in the course of play. So it wasn’t, good enough for our standards. And that’s why I’m saying we have to apologize to the hierarchy of the team.

“And I take full responsibility for that, and I think that, had we managed to defend well and not conceded those silly mistakes that we have made. I think we could be saying something else right now.”
