Mokwena Gives Cryptic Answer Over Ramovic Feud

Mamelodi Sundowns coach Rulani Mokwena has insisted that his ongoing feud with his TS Galaxy counterpart Sead Ramovic is not among his “low points” of the season.

Mokwena and Ramovic have had an exchange war of words for almost the entire season, with both coaches continuously throwing jibes at each other, since the Carling Knockout Cup clash between their respective sides late last year.

Things escalated even further when Ramovic accused Mokwena of lying about a personal phone call earlier in the year. The heat refused to tie down and Mokwena accused Galaxy’s technical team of encouraging their players to deliberately injure Bongani Zungu after their recent meeting in Tshwane.

Ramovic’s latest comment seemed to have reignited the feud after he responded to Mokwena for stating that the German-Serbian coach is out for attention. Ramovic did not take the comment well, saying he doesn’t need attention because he played at the highest level – unlike Mokwena, who “probably played badminton” – a remark due to Mokwena not having played football at professional level.

When the Sundowns coach was asked about his highs and lows of the 2023/24 season, and whether his feud with Ramovic was one of the lows, he dismissed that suggestion, comparing the Galaxy coach to a “fruitless tree”.

“I’m going to reflect on that at the end of the season. I don’t know,” Mokwena told journalists.

“Definitely my low is not the broil with the ‘other guy’ [Ramovic]. I told you about fruitless trees, there is no shade there.”

Sundowns face Galaxy on Tuesday evening in a league clash at Mbombela Stadium. The DStv Premiership champions recently beat Galaxy 3-0 at Loftus Versfeld Stadium.
