Mokwena Reacts To Dropping Points

Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Rulani Mokwena says his side side could not expect to win every single game after dropping points for the first time in 2023/24 against Cape Town City.

Masandawana were held to a goalless draw by the Citizens in Cape Town, which ended Downs’ 11-match winning streak in the DStv Premiership.

However, Mokwena insisted that his side were never going to win all games of the season and said he’s happy with the shift his players put in.

“I’m very proud of my players. This group is doing things that are very, very difficult,” he said on SuperSport TV.

“It’s a marathon that we are running and I said to the players ‘the result belongs to anybody, you can’t win them all. Just because you won 11 in a row, it doesn’t mean you win everything. What you’re owing is the process to try to win it’.

“When I look at the indicators – how many chances for City? I’m not so sure they had too many chances.

“Did we create chances? I think so. Maybe not as best as we possibly can and then also we made a couple of mistakes in the final third.

“So I’m happy with the process, we tried to win the game but the result belongs tp anybody.”

Downs moved to 34 points from 12 games – five ahead of second-placed SuperSport – and will return to action on 27 December already when they will host Moroka Swallows
