Nabi Explains Confusion Around Miguel Sub

Kaizer Chiefs head coach Nasreddine Nabi has explained the confusion around Inacio Miguel’s substitution during the league match against TS Galaxy, saying the choice was left to the player and the medics.

The Chiefs defender slipped and went down late in the second half while the side was leading 1-0 at the Peter Mokaba Stadium and was stretched off with what looked like a serious injury.

However, he quickly stood up to get back on the pitch, while the technical team was preparing his substitute even though he looked uncomfortable stepping and was limping.

A few seconds, after getting back on the pitch, the Angolan international went down again this time he was taken off and replaced by Edmilson Dove, and another minute later Amakhosi conceded the equaliser.

Nabi was asked by iDiski Times after the game why the 29-year-old insisted on returning to the pitch the first time and the coach said that decision was not up to him.

“In those cases we ask the player how he feels and as well the medical staff,” Nabi replied.

“If the player is able to return and the Doctor gives me the green card then both of them said that he could try.

“But unfortunately he couldn’t and after that he got subbed. We will wait to see how he is doing and get the thoughts of our medical staff to see if he will be there for the next game.”

Chiefs return to action next week Sunday when they will face Mamelodi Sundowns in the Nedbank Cup semi-final.
