Kaizer Chiefs head coach Nasreddine Nabi has revealed they are still looking to improve one of two positions this transfer window, but will only enter the market for the right players.
Amakhosi take on Asante Kotoko at 15:00 at Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday, with fans keen to see the club’s first official friendly on home soil.
Chiefs lost four out of their five pre-season games in the Netherlands, but didn’t have all new signings on the trip. With the window still open until September, Nabi admitted the club are still aiming to improve the squad.
“There is a one or two positions that we might strengthen, but we gonna look for the best opportunity especially in terms of quality, because we don’t want to to fill a position just to fill it,” Nabi said in the pre-match press conference ahead of Saturday’s Toyota Cup.
“We will wait as long as it requires to fill one or two positions for going ahead.”
Nabi also highlighted that he wants to give more opportunities to the club’s young and promoted players, but also admitted they have learnt from Mduduzi Shabalala and don’t want to burn out the youngsters.
“And as well, I’d like to give the opportunity as well this season to the young players that came from DDC, and the ones that were promoted last season, because we feel that there was big potential,” he continued.
“But we want to do it step by step because we have learnt from a player like Shabalala that have been given a lot of responsibilities and carried the team on his shoulders last season, especially the first part of the league, and after that, at the end of the league, he kind of, not collapsed, but his performances were not as good as we expected.
“That’s why we want to give them responsibilities, but as well without burning them and even step by step.”
