Orlando Pirates interim coach Mandla Ncikazi has admitted his future lies in the hands of the club, who are yet to announce the long-term successor of Jose Riveiro.
Ncikazi is in charge of Pirates’ last three games of the season after Riveiro had asked the club for an early release due to signing for a new club, expected to be Al Ahly.
While Riveiro is yet to be unveiled, Ncikazi has overseen two 1-1 draws against AmaZulu and TS Galaxy as well as a 1-0 win against SuperSport United.
The former Riveiro assistant and his side still have one game outstanding, facing Magesi on Wednesday evening, and Ncikazi says he is yet to hear his fate from the club’s leadership.
“Like I said I’m wired differently,” he said, as per Ayanda Nyuswa.
“I’m working at Pirates – if I’m there, good enough. If I’m not there, and it’s decided, I’m still good enough.
“I’m just happy with the contribution that I’m making in the club and [being] appreciated by the club.
“As long as it’s still like this I will always be a servant of this club until told otherwise.”
Ncikazi has been at Pirates since June 2021, first working as assistant to Josef Zinnbauer before co-coaching alongside Fadlu Davids in 2022/23 when they reached the CAF Confederation Cup final.
For the last three campaigns Ncikazi has been one of Riveiro’s assistants, but it remains to be seen whether he will continue this role under a new coach.
