Ncobo & Hlungwani Don’t Agree Over Chiefs Penalty Incident

Former FIFA referees Ace Ncobo and Victor Hlungwani had different judgements on whether Glody Lilepo deserved a penalty against Stellenbosch FC.

The new Amakhosi winger scored his first goal in the 1-0 win at the Cape Winelands side but there were question marks over a potential penalty in the second half.

For Ncobo the incident was clear, as he insisted referee Luxolo Badi should’ve pointed to the spot.

“It’s got the element where he [Lilepo] is impeded,” he stated on Extra-Time.

“You know the definition of holding… a clear penalty, clear penalty. No attempt to play the ball, using your arm to impede an opposition player – clear penalty.

“There is no discussion here, there is no attempt to play the ball, he stops the movement of the opponent, clear penalty.”

Meanwhile, Hlungwani didn’t agree with his former colleague on the same incident.

“Is touch an offence? We see here, Lilepo going past and then hands were used to touch,” ‘The Principal’ explained on Soccerzone.

“Football does not accept minor holding, you see there is just a small touch, he’s even falling before the contact was made because he anticipate… trying to to buy, you know at times [players] take a chance.

“But if he proceeds to go forward and then they block you it’s impeding. It was just a touch. Remember football is a contact sport…

“He feels a touch, he falls. Touching is not an offence, holding and pushing is an offence.

“Football does not accept minor holding, it must impede, so it must not be a minor one.”
