Former Orlando Pirates striker Pollen Ndlanya believes that the contest for the 2024/25 Betway Premiership Footballer of the Season accolade is between Relebohile Mofokeng and Lucas Ribeiro.
20-year-old Mofokeng was key in the Pirates attack this past season where he has scored five goals with eight assists as his side finished second in the league. Brazilian-born Ribeiro was a star for Mamelodi Sundowns as they clinched their eighth successive league title with a record 65 goals, 16 scored by the 26-year-old on his way to securing the Lesley Manyathela Golden Boot.

‘Trompies’ spoke to iDiski Times senior writer Matshelane Mamabolo in the feature on the PSL’s footballer of the Season in edition 210 of the newspaper and he said no one outside the duo has a chance to win the award.
“I think it is a very close battle between Relebohile Mofokeng and Lucas Ribeiro because they were both very influential for their teams this past season,” Ndlanya told iDiski Times.
“Ribeiro did very well for Mamelodi Sundowns, and that’s why he has to be considered. He played consistently well and was influential in most of their matches, and he even was the league’s top scorer. But I would go with Relebohile. For a player as young as he is to carry the team the way he did for Pirates this year was amazing.
“Pirates relied on him, and he came through for them. Every match he played, he was a key figure, as he created goals and even scored. It is very rare to have someone so young being the key player for a club, especially one as big as Pirates, where the pressure is very high.
“If I was a judge, my vote would go to Rele.”
