New Stellies Signing Breaks Silence After Chiefs Exit

Following his unceremonious exit from Kaizer Chiefs, Omega Mdaka is already targeting triple success with his new employers by clinching the DStv Premiership title, MTN8 as well as reaching the CAF Confederation Cup final.

Mdaka, 20, penned a long-term deal with Stellies after, along with Puso Dithejane, they were shown the exit door by the Glamour Boys for refusing to be ball boys. The latter has since joined TS Galaxy.

In his first interview since being unveiled as a new Stellies player, Mdaka revealed he was looking forward to turning out for the Maroon Army, and highlighted his personal goals for the new term.

“I feel very excited, I feel grateful because it’s my first um professional contract from [Kaizer] Chiefs,” he told the club’s media.

“So I feel very excited and a bit nervous, but yeah I’m just excited to get started.”

Mdaka touched on one of the reasons he opted to sign for Stellenbosch when they came calling.

“Seeing how they were were um giving the youngsters a chance in the first team and how the youngsters are developed, and growing in the first team,” he added.

“I think it also motivated me and made me want to play for Stellenbosch and also showcase my talent to people in the PSL.”

The former Amakhosi left-back believes that the defending Carling Knockout Cup Champions can compete for silverware again.

“Um, I want to get silverware obviously and get better as a player,” he said.

“Um, hopefully we compete to win the PSL with the quality of players that we have. Get the MTN8 and also reach the final in the CAF.”

Lastly, he touched on what he would like to achieve on a personal level after moving from Gauteng to the Western Cape.

“Personally, I want to offer more assists than goals for our strikers this season and also help solidify the defence at the back for the season and hopefully I can be one of the best young players in the PSL, so those are my objectives,” he further said.

“I’m very happy and excited to be here at Stellenbosch and I can’t even wait to get started and play my matches and get the Stellenbosch fans happy and also showcase my talent. Let’s Go Stellenbosch!”

Stellies have also signed Sanele Barns from Richards Bay as part of their reinforcements to compete on both the domestic and continental front.
