Former Kaizer Chiefs winger Junior Khanye believes the club should loan out Nkosingiphile Ngcobo so that he can have a shot at reaching his full potential.
Khanye believes ‘Mshini’ who is one of the products of Chiefs development in the first team, should be at a different level than what he’s portraying currently.
The 24-year-old who was promoted to the first team at 18 has played eight league matches so far this season and scored one goal.
Khanye believes the former South African junior international is not the only player from Chiefs development ranks whose potential is under threat. However, he insists that Mshini is not good enough to play as a number 10 as he lacks energy and consistency.
“If I’m not mistaken this is the fifth or sixth season Mshini has been promoted and not just him, there’s also Mashiane who got promoted around the same time as Mshini and he’s not even playing,” Khanye said on iDiski TV.
“So I don’t think Mshini is good enough to play the number 10 role. The boy is good but you need energy in that role. As a young boy, you can’t play like an old man or like you are about to retire. He needs to have energy, he needs to be a playmaker, he needs to buzz and Mshini is not even consistent.
“If you keep playing like he does and get subbed even after scoring especially as a youngster then you have a problem. And we can’t even call him a youngster anymore as he is turning 24/25. He has been promising.
“There have been a lot of players that showed promise and they had to be loaned out. So, even he should be released to go find himself somewhere because he is just like others who have been released at Kaizer Chiefs.
“They can win trophies at the development level like Mshini won the development league but the first team is at a different level.”
Ngcobo has scored seven goals and registered three assists in 87 games for Amakhosi since being promoted to the first-team in the 2018/19 season.
