Kaizer Chiefs head coach Molefi Ntseki has explained how new striker Jasond Gonzalez differs from Ranga Chivaviro and Bonfils-Caleb Bimenyimana.
Gonzalez, 24, joined Chiefs on loan from Real Santa Cruz and started his first game in the goalless draw with Royal AM.
While Gonzalez has the stature of a traditional target man, comparable to Chivaviro and Bimenyimana, Ntseki explained he is a lot more versatile and can also feature on the wing.
“I’ll always make reference to how Man City used to play without a striker. They were still very effective,” he told journalists.
“When I look at Chivaviro and Gonzalez, basically we are not going to play a game where we have a striker who is standing there all the time, whose helping the centre-backs defend the goal side.
“With him, we’ve got someone who’s very mobile. Somebody who when he’s on the sides he can be a winger, he can take players and he’s very strong on the ball.
“I think it’s a very good mixture in terms of us doing a proper profile of him. I think he will help us a lot going forward, because it’s not only about him being a target man.
“It’s about him being a reference point. Reference points can be on the side, reference points can be in the midfield, reference points can be at the top.
“The most important thing is how you move those defenders to create those scoring opportunities. I think overtime he will be a player with Ranga that will help us going forward.”
Chiefs are back in action on Wednesday when they travel to Supersport United and it remains to be seen which attacking option Ntseki will field after he rested Mduduzi Mdantsane and Tebogo Potsane against Royal AM.
