New TS Galaxy forward Samir Nurkovic has finally opened up on his exit from Kaizer Chiefs.
Nurkovic joined Chiefs in July 2019 from Serbian side Kormano and ‘Kokota Piano’ became Chiefs top goalscorer in the league in his first season at Naturena, netting 13 goals and laying six assists, even though he missed out on golden boot by three goals to Gabadinho Mhango.
The Serbian pushed Amakhosi close to the league title, falling short by two points and missing out on the trophy to Mamelodi Sundowns who won the title on the final day of the season.
He also contributed a lot in Chiefs’ run to the CAF Champions League final the following year before they lost 3-0 to Pitso Mosimane’s Al Ahly SC in Morocco.
But afterwards, Chiefs opted to part ways with the striker before he joined Royal AM, where he’s had the much-shared contract saga. As a consequence, Nurkovic hasn’t had many public interviews and also never really spoken about Chiefs exit.
The new Galaxy man has now finally given verdict of how he took the Chiefs exit, admitting that injuries where troubling him during the time.
“The injuries were coming. I was playing, I was getting back but in such a big club they need an immediate impact. I understand,” Nurkovic told Andile Ncube on Sports Night Amplified.
“At that time of the moment they had a different vision and then a lot of new young players came that’s all understandable.
“I just need to continue not dropping down. I just need to continue working hard, things in professional football are changing fast – one day you’re up, one day you’re down. I need to continue working hard.”
Overall, Nurkovic has netted 21 goals and set up another 10 in 78 appearances for the club.
