Kaizer Chiefs have announced legendary goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune has penned his final contract with the club as a professional footballer.
Khune, 36, was due to see his contract expire at the end of this month and the club have rewarded him with a new deal taking his playing career into two decades.
After this season, he will be roped into the coaching staff and potentially as a club ambassador according to the club’s official statement.
“While Khune will be involved in training and preparations for matches as a player, he will also use this year to broaden his technical acumen, as he transitions into a new coaching and ambassadorial role working with the marketing division at the Club,” read part of the club statement.
He’s racked up 423 appearances for the Soweto giants since first breaking into the first team 19 years ago.
Spider Kid, who has 91 caps for Bafana behind Aaron Mokoena, made his Chiefs debut on 25 August 2007 against Jomo Cosmos under Muhsin Ertugral at Kings Park Stadium in Durban when he was 20, two months and five days old.
