Orbit College coach Pogiso Makhoye has expressed his excitement about his side’s loan of Monnapule Saleng from Orlando Pirates, saying he wanted to help “his son” to return to Bafana Bafana.
Pirates confirmed Saleng’s loan to the newly promoted side on Wednesday, with the 27-year-old returning to the club where his senior career started.
Makhoye says it still feels a bit unbelievable his side were able to pull of the loan but he requested Saleng among a list of new signings.
“I still need to meet the management, when I saw Pirates confirming that my son is coming back, I was excited. But I still need to meet with him – until we announce him maybe I don’t believe it,” Makhoye told Thabiso Mosia on Radio 2000.
“He’s one of the players that I sent management to engage Orlando Pirates maybe for a loan. When I saw the statement, I thought he great it went through.”
Makhoye also addressed his relationship with Saleng, saying he’s discovered him, and he feels the winger deserves to return to Bafana.
“It’s about eight years now. I discovered the boy when he was young, I brought him to Rustenburg. I worked with him for three years in my house. That’s why I’m saying he’s been like a son to me,” he added.
“I’ve developed him, I know him better than anyone. I’ve made him the player who he is today. And now I’m excited about the opportunity to work with him again.
“He needs to play more; he needs to go back to Bafana Bafana because I still think that he’s got a lot to offer.”
