Premier Division football is back in the North West province after Orbit College gained Betway Premiership promotion after they relegated Cape Town City with a 1-0 scoreline at Olympia Stadium on Wednesday afternoon.
In a fully packed Olympia Stadium in Rustenburg, City took the game by the scruff of the neck showing their experience, but they didn’t trouble Orbit goalkeeper Sekhoane Moerane.
The first shot on target came through via Haashim Domingo with a long range from outside the box in the 21st minute but it went straight to Moerane.
Ten minutes later, City had another opportunity, but Amadou Soukouna’s shot from outside the box went straight to the keeper.
Orbit started to settle but decision making in the final third seemed to be letting them down as Gomolemo Khonto had an opportunity, but his shot deflected to his teammate Koapeng.
Just before halftime, Khonto had another opportunity but this time his shot sailed over the crossbar and not troubling Darren Keet. The game went into the break goalless which wasn’t good for either side but better for the Citizens.
When the second half underway, City caught Orbit’s defence napping as Jhaedin Rhodes played a through pass to Prins Tjiueza whose shot was saved by Moerane.
Mswenko Boys opened the scoring in the 47th minute through Koapeng after he beat Keet at the near post to make it 1-0.
City kept on piling the pressure with time not on their side as Domingo had another opportunity in the 62nd minute but his shot went over the crossbar.
Orbit held on to finish the mini-league on eight points with City relegated after nine seasons in topflight football.
