Orlando Pirates head coach Abdeslam Ouaddou has spoken about the importance of patience from the fans when the coach is still blending the team.
The French-Moroccan coach guided the Sea Robbers to their fourth straight MTN8 title after defeating Stellenbosch 3-0 at the Mbombela Stadium on Saturday evening.
This was the first trophy for the Buccaneers under the tutelage of Ouaddou, who replaced Jose Riveiro, taking the reins ahead of the start of the season.
Following the MTN8 final triumph, Ouaddou recalled how the fans wanted him gone after losing the two Betway Premiership against Sekhukhune United and Marumo Gallants a few weeks ago.
He stated that, while many were worried, he was not bothered, knowing things would take a turn.
“Of course, we’re happy because the club has been winning this trophy for many years,” said Ouaddou.
“For people, it’s normal, but it’s not normal because you have to perform, you need to win games against Mamelodi Sundowns, and it was not easy.
“Today [Saturday], we played Stellenbosch who also play in Africa. For me, it’s part of the process. I was not worried, maybe people were worried.
“Football needs patience sometimes, when you come to a club that has ten new players, and you have to bring a new weapon for the club to be more dangerous.
“And sometimes, it takes time and people don’t understand. Yes, we lost two games at the beginning of the season, but you know how we lost those games, it’s not like we didn’t deserve to win. But still after two games, people want to fire the coach.”
