Ouaddou Makes Honest Title Race Admission

Orlando Pirates head coach Abdeslam Ouaddou has acknowledged that their title ambitions have taken a major blow after dropping vital points against Richards Bay.

The Buccaneers were held to a 2-2 draw by the Natal Rich Boyz at uMhlathuze Sports Complex on Friday evening, a result that could prove decisive in the Betway Premiership title race.

Sundowns now have the opportunity to extend their lead to four points in their next fixture, while Pirates remain second on 55 points after 24 matches.

Ouaddou admitted their chances are slim, stressing that they must make the most of the limited opportunity they still have.

“Look, in terms of what we wanted to achieve, of course I think we didn’t achieve what we came for. We came here for three points, regarding the title race,” said Ouaddou.

“The game didn’t go like we wanted. I think, again, we created the early chances of that game we could have scored earlier.

“We were caught on the set-piece, it’s been a long time since that happened. I think we managed to be one of the best teams in defending the set-pieces. For now, I think we were caught in that area.

“We managed to come back after. I think we did the most difficult against a very good team. It’s not easy to come to play here on this small pitch against a very brave team, very organised.

“We played many games. I think it was the third game against Richards Bay. It was always difficult, but we knew it. We didn’t get the three points.

“Things will become difficult for the rest of the league, but nothing is impossible. When I’m telling you that it will be difficult, it means that we still have a small chance to dream.

“We don’t have to gamble this small chance. We have to play every game until the end and we’ll see what happens.”
