Orlando Pirates head coach Abdeslam Ouaddou has described winning the Betway Premiership tile as a big moment for the club and fans.
Pirates beat ORBIT College 2-0 on the final day of the league season to finish ahead of Mamelodi Sundowns, ending the Brazilians’ eight year reign.
The result also confirmed ORBIT’s relegation, after Magesi beat Richards Bay 1-0 to move off the bottom spot.
But the afternoon in Mbombela belonged to Pirates, and Moroccan coach Oauddou, who won the league with Pirates in his first season, ending a 14 year wait for the Buccaneers fans.
“Yeah, I think it’s a big moment, big moment for all of the community, for the fans,” Ouaddou told SuperSport after the game.
“I think they’ve have been waiting for a long time, 14 years, it’s a lot. And I think we have to give credit to our boys today, that fight for them, to make them happy.
“So I have a thought for all the lovers of Pirates in all South Africa. They’ve been fantastic all this season, supporting us. It was not an easy season, you know, but credit has to be given to the boys, to the club.
“And for me, I’m a happy man, I’m a happy man today to bring the joy to millions of people here, I think they deserve it.”
