TS Galaxy head coach Bernard Parker clinched his first trophy with the club after guiding them to a thumping 3-1 win over Kruger United in the Mpumalanga Premier’s Cup final at Kanyamazane Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
This was somewhat of a consolation for the Kaizer Chiefs legend who narrowly missed out on the Nedbank Cup trophy toward the end of last season as they went down 2-1 to Durban City as interim coach.
The Rockets started the tournament off to a good note by eliminating Motsepe Foundation Championship side The Bees 2-0 in the semi-finals with Selwyn George opening the scoring in the 33rd minute before new signing Thabo Tshikweta doubled the lead in the 74th minute to see them through into the final.
In the final, Galaxy hammered newly promoted Betway Premiership side Kruger. Nhlakanipho Ngwenya netted in the 25th minute before completing his brace in the 72nd minute. Rising talent Seluleko Mahlambi then netted the third for their triumphant win.
Parker’s charges were not only crowned Premier’s Cup champions but also won big on the individual awards front.
