Langelihle Phili and Sage Stephens emerged as the biggest winners at the Stellenbosch’s annual senior awards ceremony held at the Stellenbosch Town Hall on Tuesday evening
With the season set to conclude this weekend, the Winelands outfit gathered players, staff club officials, media and guests, honouring those who helped drive another campaign for Stellies.
Captain and goalkeeper Stephens claimed the night’s top accolade after being crowned Footballer of the Season, while also retaining the Sportsman of the Season award for the second consecutive year. The Bafana Bafana international enjoyed another outstanding campaign between the posts, recording 11 clean sheets in 39 appearances.
Meanwhile, it was an unforgettable evening for Phili, as ‘Major’ swept up four awards on the night. The attacking star walked away with the Players’ Player of the Season, Rama Fans’ Player of the Season, Oshwin Andries Young Player of the Season and Golden Boot awards after a breakthrough campaign in front of goal.
Phili finished the season with 10 goal contributions — nine goals and one assist — the highest tally in the squad.
