Pirates Makes Soweto Derby Announcement

Orlando Pirates have confirmed tickets for the upcoming Soweto Derby have been sold out in the space of a day.

Tickets had gone on sale on Monday, starting from R120 for level one and R170 for level two. As with the previous derby, tickets sold out in record time in less than 24 hours.

This will be the 185th official meeting between Amakhosi and the Sea Robbers. The match will now take place on Sunday, 26 April, instead of Saturday as initially scheduled, due to logistical considerations around the Nasrec area.

The Sunday date is expected to benefit travelling supporters, as Monday, 27 April, is a public holiday marking South Africa’s 32nd Freedom Day.

Pirates won the first-round fixture 3-0 and currently sit at the top of the log, with 51 points from 22 games, while Chiefs are fourth with 36 points from 20 games.

The Buccaneers have won the last five league clashes with their bitter rivals, keeping three clean sheets, but Chiefs had the upper hand in last year’s Nedbank Cup final.
