Orlando Pirates broke two club records in their win over Stellenbosch FC, while Sipho Chaine also edged his name into the club’s record books.
The Buccaneers beat Stellenbosch 2-0 away from home on Tuesday evening, moving to 62 points on the Betway Premiership log – just two behind leaders Mamelodi Sundowns with three games outstanding.

It is a new record-points tally for the Sea Robbers, breaking their previous of 61 from 2002/03 and 2024/25.
In fact, Pirates have won the league four times with less points than they have collected this campaign already, winning it in 2001/02 and 2002/03 with 61 points, in 2010/11 with 60 points and in 2011/12 with 58 points.
However, as previous coach Jose Riveiro stated, they are competing with a “points machine”, as Sundowns have set the Premier Soccer League record at 73 points – a feat they could still equal this campaign should they win all three remaining fixtures.
Pirates, meanwhile have also set a new club record for most goals in a 30-match campaign, reaching 53 goals this season and breaking their tally of 52 from 2004/05 – Sundowns also hold the league record here with 65 goals scored last campaign.
Chaine Beats Josephs’ CS Record
In addition, Chaine wrote his name into the club’s history books after keeping his 18th clean sheet of the season in the 2-0 over Stellenbosch. He’s bettered the club record of Moeneeb Josephs and also equalled the league record from Rowen Williams.
Chaine needs one more clean sheet in the three remaining games to set a new PSL record.
The Buccaneers will face Magesi, Durban city and ORBIT College in their three outstanding fixtures of the 2025/26 season.
