Former Mamelodi Sundowns and Al Ahly coach Pitso Mosimane has broken his silence on rumours linking him with the Orlando Pirates job to replace Jose Riveiro next season.
The South African tactician is currently Africa’s most successful club coach, but he has been out of a job since parting ways with Iranian side Esteghlal FC over payment issues.
While the case is still with FIFA, Mosimane has returned to South Africa and is currently focussing on his Pitso Mosimane Youth Football project.
However, recent reports have linked him with the Pirates job after Jose Riveiro announced he will not pen a new contract and be leaving the club at the end of the season.
Mosimane, though, insisted he hasn’t been contacted by anyone from the club’s leadership.
“I’ve seen it [speculation]. Nobody has spoken to me. So, we can’t be talking about nothing,” he told The Sowetan.
“We will see. At the moment this badge means a lot to me, more than any other badge.”
Mosimane has insisted his days are still filled with coaching at the Pitso Mosimane Youth Football project and he doesn’t even feel like he’s out of a job.
“I’m home, yes, but it depends. It must be the right project, it must be the right time,” he replied when asked whether he could imagine a return to a PSL club.
“But let me build this legacy, because once I stop coaching people will forget about the trophies.
“Let’s have something that will keep me going. Look how busy I am, today I’m here, [and] I’m going to another school. I was launching one in Rustenberg three days back, I’m so busy, it’s not funny…
“I’m not even seeing the vacancy of not being on the pitch. I’m on the pitch with the coaches, I’m watching them, are they doing the right thing.
“It’s hectic. I’m every day at the office, I’m every day at the pitches, every day at the schools, every day at the government offices, so I can’t ask for more. I’m blessed, thank you.”
