Richards Bay have sacked coach Kaitano Tembo on Christmas Day and confirmed that Vusimuzi Vilakazi will take over “until further notice”.
Tembo was appointed ahead of the 2023/24 season, but could win just four of his 18 games in charge in KwaZulu-Natal.
Despite a run to the semi-final of the Carling Knockout Cup, Bay were struggling in the league, where they currently sit in 15th place with 10 points from 15 games.
The club’s latest 1-0 defeat to Kaizer Chiefs was seemingly enough for the club’s leadership to send Tembo packing on Christmas.
“Richards Bay Football Club would like to announce the release of the Head Coach Mr. Kaitano Tembo with immediate effect,” the club stated.
“The Club would like to thank the coach for his contribution during this season. We wish him all the best in his future endeavors.
“Senior Coach Mr. Vusi Vilakazi will take over the first team until further notice.”
Out of 18 games, Tembo won four, drew four and lost 10.
