Premier Soccer League side Sekhukhune United have confirmed that their player Shaune Mogaila was involved in a car accident, which cost a young girl her life.
News broke on Wednesday that the car of an unnamed PSL player had hit another vehicle carrying the mother of a nine-year girl, the scholar herself as well as another girl from her neighbours, which resulted in the sad passing of the nine-year-old while the other two passengers had to rushed to hospital.
While the PSL player allegedly first fled the scene, Mogaila later turned himself in at the police with initial reports claiming that alcohol and drugs were found in the car of the player.
Babina Noko have now confirmed that Mogaila was indeed involved in an “incident” which resulted in the loss of a life of a minor, but didn’t give any further details as the case is now before the court.
“Sekhukhune United FC regrettably learnt of the unfortunate incident involving one of our players, Shaune Mogaila,” the club stated.
“We would like to convey our deepest and heartfelt condolences to the family of the minor who lost her life.
“Our thoughts and prayers are also with those who have been injured, and we wish them a speedy recovery.
“The Club is unable to comment further as the matter is before the court.”
