Orlando Pirates winger Relebohile Mofokeng’s father Sechaba Mofokeng has revealed that his son’s talents and potential were first seen by the player’s mother.
The 21-year-old has impressed since his promotion from Pirates’ development ranks two seasons ago. He has been integral part of the side’s attack helping them to a second place finish in the league last season, the MTN 8 victory and reaching the semi-finals of the CAF Champions League and the finals of the Nedbank Cup.
His father spoke to IDiski Times senior writer Matshelane Mamabolo in edition 209 of the newspaper where he said Mofokeng’s mother saw the potential in his early teen years and from that moment the whole family actively started supporting his interests in the game.
“My wife saw it first,” Mofokeng senior told iDiski Times.
“She said, ‘This one will make a difference in our lives’. I didn’t believe it at first. But then I watched him at 13 years old, playing with grown men – and I knew. This one is going far.
“From then on we ran with him. Whatever he needed, we made a way.”
