Mamelodi Sundowns striker Lucas Ribeiro Costa has revealed that a call with Rulani Mokwena convinced him to join the club and he feels the decision was the ‘best moment of his life’.
The Brazilian forward joined Sundowns from Belgian club SK Beveren in the off-season and has made an immediate impact, scoring five DStv Premiership goals in six games.
He has also scored two in the CAF Champions League, and will look to add to that tally when Downs host Nouadhibou in their opening group stages game on Sunday.
Ribeiro was asked by iDiski Times how much he knew about the club before they approached him, and whether he needed to Google Sundowns.
“When I was approached by Sudnowns at first, I didn’t know much about the club, but it got my attention,” Ribeiro replied.
“I had to go and search about it, search about the club and also the country. More I got to realize it’s a good club and good ambitions to win, which was actually part of what I was looking for for my career to be in that space.
“And then I managed to have a phone call with the coach. We had a Zoom call and we were talking about the tactics, his style of play, which when I searched I noticed how the team was playing.
“And when the coach had a chat on the call with me, he explained the ambitions of the club, how the club plays and the tactics and everything. So it was a big win for me because I bought into the idea and when I arrived it was actually the same thing that was I was told before I arrived, so it was what I was longing for.
“And also it was a good group so everything was good. To be honest with you, I made the best moment of my life, the decision I’ve taken the time to come to join Sundowns, the best moment.
“Because I’ve tasted now, winning with the club and it gives me more desire to want to win more titles as well with the club so I’m pretty good with the decision to come join here.”
