‘Rulani Advised Me Against Joining Sundowns’

Chippa United goalkeeper coach Sean Louw has opened up about how Mamelodi Sundowns head coach, Rulani Mokoena advised him to get more PSL experience before aiming for a bigger side in the DStv Premiership.

Louw chatted to iDiski Times senior writer Velile Mnyandu in edition 157 of the newspaper, where he spoke of a time he could have joined the seven-time league champions but heeded Mokoena’s advice.

The two had worked together at the Chilli Boys during Mokoena’s stint at the Gqeberha-based outfit. Louw admits that he was tempted to join Sundowns, but realised that it was worth taking the advice to gain experience elsewhere first.

“Obviously, everyone wants to go there, it is a great place to be,” Louw told iDiski Times.

“But the head coach of Mamelodi Sundowns [Rulani] said to me ‘You can come but for the sake of your experience and for the sake of when the time that you are going to train first team goalkeepers at Sundowns comes, then you at least got three to four years experience in the PSL.

“So take the PSL offer, coach [Sinethemba] Badela and I will see what we do in the meantime but take the offer, be the head of goalkeeping at Chippa United and see what you can do.”
