Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Rulani Mokwena has credited Orlando Pirates, especially the club’s leadership, about how they conducted themselves over the transfer of Thembinkosi Lorch.
Lorch, 30, completed a Deadline Day move between the two South African giants, as first reported by iDiski Times.
With the move shocking many in the local football fraternity, Mokwena has now hailed the Buccaneers’ for their role in allowing Lorch to switch sides.
“It’s difficult to talk about Lorch without thanking Orlando Pirates about the investment and the work they did on Lorch,” he told Thabiso Mosia on Radio2000.
“Lorch is an incredible footballer but an incredible footballer because of his football background. And his football background is eight to nine years, maybe even more as an Orlando Pirates player.
“So huge, huge kudus to the football club and respect. That’s why it had to be done right, and I think both clubs because of the relationships and the strong cooperation between the two clubs, I think it was done right and I think even from Orlando Pirates’ side the humility to engage with Mamelodi Sundowns and our desire to get Lorch needs to be commended.
“Because both teams were humble and respectful, and from the highest authorities in both football clubs. It’s also interesting for us as young leaders in lessons, when you see your elders dealing with certain issues in a graceful, respectful manner, it teaches you how to be a good leader over a certain period of time.”
Lorch has a chance to make his Sundowns debut on the weekend when his new employers face his old team at 20:00 on Saturday.
