Sekhukhune United head coach Brandon Truter was left disheartened after a poor decision saw Moroka Swallows steal a 2-1 victory in their DStv Premiership match at the Peter Mokaba stadium on Wednesday evening.
The match looked like it was going to end in a 1-1 draw after Lindokuhle Mtshali’s 16th-minute goal and Chibuike Ohizu’s strike in the 25th minute.
The winner came in injury time and it looked like Badre Ali Sangare was pushed an incident that saw the two benches confront each other as they had different reactions to the decision to allow the goal to stand.
Truter says he would like to see the South African Football Association (SAFA) act on such decisions as in Europe.
“Uh by officials’ decision, it’s poor. We watched the game on Monday night, a European game between Manchester United and Wolves United where the officials got it wrong. VAR and the whole panel was suspended after that incident,” Truter said after the game.
“Here in South Africa, we get away with decisions like that. It was there and clear for everyone to see a push on the goalkeeper.
“Even their bench confirmed it but they fought for the goal and they were pushing the officials for the goal and I’d do the same. I can’t fault them for it but because he gave it they felt that it should stay because of his decisions.
“So ja gutted about that decision but we move forward. I just hope that SAFA doesn’t leave it as it is because in Europe like I said those officials were punished.”
Meanwhile the referring team on the night led by Siyabonga Nkomo had to be escorted off the pitch by security after the game as some Ba Bina Noko fans threw objects at them. Truter says though he understands their frustrations he doesn’t condone the behaviour.
“I don’t encourage it but if it’s clear and blatant for everybody to see then you feel a sense of being robbed. I think the fans got frustrated and that’s what happens.
“I don’t encourage it, we don’t condone it and I’m sure our media department will speak to the supporters about the missile throwing.”
