AmaZulu have appointed Wayne Sandilands as the club’s goalkeeper coach, replacing Musa Langa.
Langa stepped in after Brandon Truter left with his own team in October last year where he was replaced by Roman Folz.
As Folz was removed in April this year, Langa continued until the end of the season and he is set to go back to his role in the DStv Diski Challenge next season.
Sandilands, who won the CAF Champions League with Mamelodi Sundowns in the 2016, called time in his footballer career last season.
He was appointed as Maritzburg United Goalkeeper Coach to be part of Fadlu Davids’ technical team in November last year, when the latter replaced John Maduka. That’s when he left Pirates to assume his new role.
As Davids could not able to save Maritzburg to be relegated last season, Sandilands also departed the Team of Choice.
AmaZulu coach Pablo Franco Martin was delighted to have captured Sandilands, as he is continuing to build a new technical team ahead of this coming season.
“All of us are all in the same boat,” said Cijimpi after his side beat Royal AM 2-0 in the KZN Premier’s Cup elimination’s match at Sugar Ray Xulu Stadium on Saturday.
“We are working hard as a team and as a collective, not only for the coach or members of the staff, we are talking about goalkeepers.
“But I’m really happy for him [Sandilands] to be part of the team.”
Interestingly, AmaZulu will face the same Royal AM in their first league game of the 2023/24 season at Harry Gwala Stadium on 5 August.
