Kaizer Chiefs assistant coach Dillon Sheppard was on post-match duties for Amakhosi, explaining head coach Fernando Da Cruz had “fallen ill”.

Chiefs collected their third successive draw in the Betway Premiership and their fifth across their last six league games, losing grip on the top three.

While Chiefs remained unbeaten, they are now already nine points behind leaders Mamelodi Sundowns, albeit with a game in hand.

After the match, Da Cruz did not appear for his SuperSport TV post-match interview, with Sheppard explaining in the press conference that he wasn’t feeling well.

“Coach has fallen ill. He was vomiting. Se he is with the doctors, checking on him.”

There was already some confusion ahead of the game, with Faiz Abrahams initially named in the starting XI which was released via the club’s WhatsApp channel.

However, the Stellenbosch loanee than completely disappeared from the team sheet, with Sheppard confirming Amakhosi had planned to play him against his mother club.

“I don’t want to comment too much about it. I don’t really know too much, leaning up to it,” he stated.

“Obviously we had prepared the game with him and then there were some issues and we couldn’t start him.”
