Minister of Sports, Arts and Culture of South Africa Gayton McKenzie has said he plans to meet with both SAFA and the PSL about the lack of VAR in domestic football.
Calls for VAR in the Betway Premiership and beyond have been loud of late, with South African officiating having been under scrutiny for several seasons.
Those outcries were particularly loud on Saturday after controversial decisions in Mamelodi Sundowns 2-1 win over Kaizer Chiefs.
Now Minister McKenzie has said it is high time the technology is introduced here.
“All football loving fans know that the time for VAR has arrived in SA football,” McKenzie posted on social media.
“We need VAR and we need it now, those meetings start now because we are not a 10th world country.
“I shall report back soonest after meeting SAFA and the PSL this week.”
