Spurs Appeal PSL Baartman DRC Ruling

Cape Town Spurs have lodged an appeal with the South African Football Association (SAFA) against the Premier Soccer League Dispute Resolution Chamber ruling regarding Luke Baartman.

The PSL DRC ruled in favour of Baartman earlier this week, declaring him a free agent after Spurs got relegated to the SAFA ABC Motsepe League.

After Spurs’ relegation to amateur football, Baartman – similar to Asanele Velebayi – was declared a free agent by the PSL DRC.

But the Urban Warriors haven’t given up their fight, as they have appealed both PSL DRC rulings.

The appeal pertains to a player’s contract status following the club’s relegation from the National First Division, challenging the DRC’s interpretations of league rules and seeking enforcement of the existing employment agreement.

With Liam Bern and Mervin Boji also set to appeal for their releases with the DRC, the ongoing legal battles could be far from over.

Meanwhile, Baartman and Velebayi, as well as their other new signing, Etiosa Ighodaro, were presented by Kaizer Chiefs in front of around 10,000 supporters at FNB Stadium when they faced Richards Bay in their Betway Premiership this past Tuesday.

The Amakhosi will be able to register Baartman, but his debut in the famous black and gold will be delayed as he and Velebayi won’t be allowed to play until the appeal is finalised.
