Stellies Suffer Blow Ahead Of Derby

Stellenbosch Football Club will be without their first choice goalkeeper Sage Stephens when they face Cape Town City this evening at Danie Craven Stadium.

Stephens has been Stellies’ pillar in the past few seasons, and has been in superb form in recent months, keeping five clean sheets in his last six appearances.

He joined the club in September 2020 from rivals Cape Town City and has helped the Cape Winelands side to finish in the top eight and reach their first ever cup final.

Stellies will miss Stephens in Friday’s Western Cape Derby after he received his fourth yellow card during Carling Knockout Cup semi-final against Richards Bay.

The 32-year-old made 16 appearances in the current campaign thus far, keeping nine clean-sheets and conceding just 12 goals – this includes five clean sheets in the DStv Premiership.

Oscarine Masuluke is expected to step up, and it won’t be for the first time. This could be Masuluke’s second successive derby, as he was in goals when Stellies defeated Spurs by 3-0.

There’s also the experienced Lee Langeveldt, who has only made one appearance this season, starting in goal in the 3-1 win over Royal AM in August.
