Mamelodi Sundowns are closing in on the signing of Marumo Gallants forward Lesiba Nku after sealing a move for Junior Mendieta ahead of the new season.
Nku, 27, was one of the standout players for Gallants last season and despite their relegation, interest has been widespread for his services.
But the lure of Sundowns has proven too much to resist offers from the likes of SuperSport United and Stellenbosh, who made early moves for the CAF Confederation Cup semi-finalist.
With Bradley Ralani, Gift Motupa, and Haashim Domingo all released, while Lesedi Kapinga looks set to follow suit, Nku was identified as a local talent ready for the next step.
The move might come as a surprise to many, but head coach Rulani Mokwena has been a known admirer and the club feels Nku has shown enough to be able to fight for a place at the club next season.
Playing as a central midfielder, right-wing, left-wing and even a false nine, his technical ability and versatility caught the eye of many around South Africa and even around the continent during their exploits in the CAF inter-club competition last season.
Sources close to Gallants have confirmed that the club have accepted a bid from Sundowns and talks are at an advanced stage with the tricky winger, who scored five goals and registered three assists in 31 games last season.
Barring any last-minute hiccups, he’s set to be a new Masandawana player in the new campaign, becoming their next signing after Junior Mendieta from Stellenbosch.
The Argentine playmaker has signed a four-year deal with the club and looks set to play a key role for the Brazilians next season.
