There’s Possibility To Lift A Trophy – Chiefs Star

Kaizer Chiefs captain Yusuf Maart believes there is possibility for the team to lift a trophy this season.

Chiefs have endured a nine-season trophy drought while their performances also left a lot to be desired for in recent campaigns, the worst being the last one where they finished in a low 10th place.

However, the 2024/25 term has seen a rejuvenated Amakhosi under the leadership of Nasreddine Nabi who has warned against high expectations in his first season. They are currently occupying sixth place on the Betway Premiership log with six points from three matches while there is the league, Carling Knockout and Nedbank Cups to compete for this season.

Speaking ahead of the CUFA Cup match against Marumo Gallants, Maart said it’s the way the team has been playing and how the technical team has been doing things that makes him believe that Chiefs can win some silverware this season.

“Anything is possible, it will take hard work,” Maart told reporters.

“The way we play, to be honest you can see there is a big improvement as players, as coaches and what they want because they are aggressive on us. We are aggressive so there’s possibility to win something this season.

“For me to believe it, obvious every season is a different season but this season I think the technical team they have a different mentality so that mentality they have to bring to us, and they are aggressive on us at training, whatever you do, he’ll shout at you if he has to there are no favourites for anyone.

“I think everyone wants to improve themselves and to prove themselves to be honest, so obvious each and every player is not here to just relax everyone is working.”

Chiefs take on Bahlabane Ba Ntwa in the CUFA Cup at the Free State Stadium on Sunday at 15:00.
