Sekhukhune United head coach Eric Tinkler has explained the absence of veteran defender Daniel Cardoso and midfielder Thabang Monare, saying it’s because of injury and rotation.
The pair was notably out of the match-day squad in Sekhukhune’s 1-1 league draw at home against Richards Bay on Tuesday evening.

The result saw the Limpopo side miss out on the top spot and drop to third place on the Betway Premiership log with 21 points in 11 outings.
The encounter was Cardoso’s second in a row that he was absent from the team, and Tinkler explained Cardoso’s situation is a case of him having a lot of choices in his position, while Monare picked up an injury in the game against Siwelele last week.
“Monare is injured obviously Medupi [Thokolo] and Bright [Ndlovu] have been really, really good centre-back pairing,” answered Tinkler when asked about duo’s absence by iDiski Times.
“Tresor [Tshibwabwa] has now also come back, and Tresor also let’s not forget last season was one of the principal players in the team. So, when you got a lot of choices like I have, you know, I have to make difficult decisions and give everyone a bit of an opportunity.
“So, Tresor travelled this one, Danny [Cardoso] is still with us, he’s still working. He’ll get his opportunity. As I said Monare picked up an injury in the Siwelele game, so that’s why Miguel [Timm] started today.”
Tinkler also gave an update on his captain Linda Mntambo’s return, saying it’s a matter of weeks. Mntambo has been side-lined with an ankle injury he picked up in league match against TS Galaxy back in August.
“So, Linda, he started [training] with us,” added Tinkler.
“We’ve been away now for a bit, five or six days, but he started about a week ago with us. And Linda should be back within the next two weeks, so he’s actually now training with the first team. He’s not only doing rehab.”
