Cape Town City head coach Eric Tinkler said he was very proud of the efforts from his team as they held Mamelodi Sundowns to a goalless draw on Sunday afternoon.
It was the first DStv Premiership game this season that Sundowns had not won, and while there was no score, it was a high-octane football game, where City gave as good they got.
City’s high press, especially in the first half, was very effective, and Tinkler commended his players for the efforts they put in.
“I’m extremely proud of the boys, I asked a lot from them,” Tinkler responded to a question from iDiski Times.
“They needed to play with a lot of energy and intensity. And that’s not easy against a quality team like Mamelodi Sundowns.
“They’re a team that is extremely comfortable on the ball, with a lot of ability, and a lot of confidence.
“So we needed to be extremely brave in terms of our pressing strategy, but I thought players applied it exceptionally well. Just the final product was lacking.”
