After their 11th match without a win, Cape Town City head coach Eric Tinkler has said that he is only focused on what he can control, and not any concerns of his job security.
City lost 2-0 to Orlando Pirates on Wednesday, and are yet to win a game in all competitions in 2024.
When asked if he and chairman John Comitis had discussed his job security, Tinkler said this a conversation they’ve been having for some time, but he can only worry about the ‘controllables’.
“We’ve been discussing this for a long, long time,” Tinkler responded in the post match press conference.
“We’ve been discussing that for a long, long time. It wasn’t just this last week or the week before. We’ve had this discussion a long, long time.
“Listen, I need to worry about the controllables – that I can control. Right now I’m in charge, I carry on being in charge. That’s the unfortunate reality of being a coach.
“When the results are not coming, the blame comes on you, you know, blames never fault to the players, falls on the coach.
“I can’t worry about the guillotine coming. Because somewhere along the line, it will come. So I’ll leave you to worry about it.”
