Following his side’s victory in the Limpopo derby, Sekhukhune United head coach Eric Tinkler has revealed that his mandate is to qualify for the CAF Confederation Cup.
Ellis Rammala and Daniel Cardoso scored in either half in the match against Polokwane City at the Peter Mokaba Stadium to move to third position on the Betway Premiership log with 40 points in 24 outings. A top three finish would see Babina Noko qualify for the CAF Confederation Cup next season however they have competition from a lot of the sides behind them.
Tinkler admitted after the game how big the result was as playing in Africa is the reason he was hired at the club.
“We want that number three spot to try and get into CAF you know that’s been the objective,” Tinkler answered iDiski Times when asked how much he wants the spot.
“That was what the club brought me in here for, to get a team into the CAF competition. So that is my purpose. That is my objective. Obviously, I have to relay that message to the players and make them aware of that. And sometimes the pressure I put on them makes them perform the way they did in the second half which players need to understand that playing the professional sport you have to be able to deal with pressure.
“And I mentioned that prior to the game, that as footballers, you know you have the pressure of wanting to become a known player. You have the pressure of wanting to have a better life. Everybody has these pressures. Now it’s about how you cope with it and deal with it, and we didn’t deal with it very well in the second half, but once we got the second goal then we looked to calm down, and we started to play a little bit more, but a little bit late.”
